The Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre is hosting Salon des Artistes Nord once again this December. Works for sale have been submitted by artists, photographers, and sculptors from around the region. The exhibition/sale runs from Wednesday December 03rd, 2015 to Wednesday December 30th.
The Grand Opening is on Wednesday December 03rd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre is located at 325 Second Avenue, across the street from the library.
The Porcupine Art Club hosts their summer Sunday Open Studio sessions every Sunday afternoon (Noon to 4pm) from July 05th through to August 30th. The open studio is held at the club’s headquarters, the brick building in Roy Nicholson Park on the intersection of Pine Street North and Eighth Avenue in Timmins. This is a great chance to meet with local artists!

The Porcupine Art Club received some sad news this past week with the sudden death of friend and artist, Greg Sloggett on Sunday July 12th, 2015. Greg and Bruce MacKinnon had been on their way to the Northern Ontario Art Association’s painting week at La Cloche Mountains on Saturday the 11th when Greg began to feel unwell. He was rushed to Sudbury Health Sciences North, but passed away the next morning.
A memorial gathering will take place at the Lessard Stephens Reception Centre (across the street from the funeral home) on Saturday July 25th, 2015 from 1pm to 3pm.

The studio will be tied up and works for sale will be posted along the walls in anticipation for Sunday Open Studio season, which will start the following day.
PAC Members are invited to bring along their works for sale to hang up on the wall. A label or card with the artist’s name and the price must be included on the FRONT of the piece. (That way, we won’t have to take works down to look for that information.) We take 10% commission off sales at the club; please price accordingly. Cards, small crafts (original, not from a kit), and print replicas of your work can also be sold.

The final business meeting of 2015 takes place on Thursday June 11th at 7:00pm at the clubhouse in Roy Nicholson Park. (Intersection of Pine Street North and Eighth Avenue in Timmins). This meeting is the deadline for all interested members in good standing to submit their $25.00 entry fee for the 59th Annual NOAA Juried Exhibit competition. You must have attended at least 3 business meetings in the 2014/15 year in order to enter; new members are exempt from this rule. A deadline for entries will be announced in the summer.

Porcupine Art Member, Shafik Al-Hamdani will be presenting this week’s Thursday evening workshop, which is an Artists’s talk. The talk will be taking place at Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology, located on Highway 101 East in Porcupine (across the highway from the Porcupine Mall). This is about a 10 to 15-minute drive from downtown Timmins.
If you are travelling by bus, the number 16 leaves the terminal on Spruce St. South at 6:30pm and arrives at the College around 15 to 20 minutes later. To get back into town, you will be taking route 901, which leaves the College campus around 10 to the hour and takes about 40 minutes to arrive in town (e.g. leave at 8:50pm to be in Timmins for 9:30pm).
Shafik’s talk will start around 7:00pm and be about an hour and a half to two hours long with discussion. He has booked room 104 A, which is the original part of the building – go in through the main doors, past the book store and library, and the room will be in that area.
